As our Armed Forces continue to deploy to locations around the globe and the number of Veterans making the transition from active-duty to civilian life accelerates, the needs of Veterans in South Texas will grow at a rising rate. This is why VA Secretary Robert McDonald visited the Rio GrandeValley earlier this week.

Secretary McDonald addressed the need to provide sufficient services to Veterans and made two key points: we must work to bring immediate relief to Veterans facing challenges and plan to meet the long-term needs of a region with a growing Veteran population.

I participated in a roundtable with Secretary McDonald, Senator JohnCornyn, UTRGV President Guy Bailey, Dean of the UTRGV Medical School Dr. Francisco Fernandez, and South Texas Veterans. During theroundtable, we discussed how the community could work together to meet the needs of Veterans.

I spoke about the work my office does on behalf of Veterans and brought to the attention of Secretary McDonald feedback from Veterans who are having difficulty navigating the VA bureaucracy.
