If a Rose-throated Becard has been at the top of your birding list, or if you’ve never seen even one rare neotropical bird before, there is a Valley full of birds waiting to be seen throughout the year. Hundreds of species of birds not easily found anywhere else, make Brownsville one of the best places for birding in the United States and the world.
Our mild climate and southern location allow excellent birding year-round. This area is unique in that it is home to many tropical species of birds (500 counted so far) that reach their northernmost destination. Serious and casual birders come to Brownsville because of its subtropical, temperate, coastal and desert regions, as well as its position at the convergence of major migratory flyways.
