SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — Trish Costello was one of the first to see the variegated flycatcher on the Island.

The rare bird was spotted and now has people from all over the Rio GrandeValley, state and nation swooping into the WorldBirdingNatureCenter to see the small, masked interesting-looking bird that’s not common to the area or state.
