Laguna Atascosa offers the public the opportunity to explore South Texas’ unique habitats through wildlife observation (primarily by walking or biking), photography, and seasonal guided tours. There are also fishing and hunting opportunities. The popular Bayside Wildlife Drive is expected to reopen to private vehicles in early 2019. With roughly 100,000 acres, there are over 450 species of plants, 410 species of birds, 128 species of butterflies, 45 types of mammals, 44 reptile and amphibian species, and about 40 fish species that have been documented here.
