Drive east on Route 4 for about 20 miles and you’ll see pristine wetlands and sand dunes before reaching an undeveloped jewel on the Gulf of Mexico called Boca Chica Beach. Boca Chica Beach offers a wide, white sand beach open to vehicles where you can camp out, fish, surf or sunbathe.
Birds to look for include the Piping Plover, Reddish Egret and the Brown Pelican, just to name a few. Pelagic birds include Cory’s Shearwater, Leach’s Storm-Petrel and the magnificent Frigatebird.
