This is an advanced Spanish course that builds upon existing oral proficiencies of heritage speakers of Spanish. Enhances abilities in the home-based language by developing a full range of registers including public speaking and formal written discourse. Emphasis on comprehension, appreciation, and interpretation of the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world and it improves Spanish language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

From Recipe to Reality: A Foodpreneur Round Table @ UTRGV at Resaca Village

Do you have a secret sauce or special family recipe? Potential foodpreneurs are invited to attend a food-product workshop on March 5, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, at the UTRGV at Resaca Village, located 1601 E. Price Rd. in Brownsville.

“From Recipe to Reality: A Foodpreneur Round Table” is a panel-led discussion on food idea-generation; food industry-rules; food product-testing; and best practices from experienced foodpreneurs. Guest speakers include the City of Brownsville Public Health Department Food Division; A & B Labs; and LGI Foods. 956 BBQ Rub has also been invited.

“This session is designed for individuals who need further information on the first steps to commercializing a food product. If you have a unique recipe or are considering foodpreneurship as a way to launch a business, this introductory session will give you some insight on what factors to consider before doing so,” shares Arturo Gonzalez, a Senior Business and Trade Advisor with the UTRGV Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

This session is hosted by the UTRGV SBDC with partnership support from the UTRGV Entrepreneurship & Commercialization Center and through sponsorship support from the UTRGV Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center.

The invention of smart phones and photo filters has turned almost everyone into a photographer. However, good photography requires a strong sense of creativity and aesthetics, coupled with a range of technical skills.

This introductory course will expose participants to the basics of digital photography and help them best utilize their digital cameras. Exploring these topics with the instructor will help improve your digital photography skills, and teach you what really goes into creating a good photo.

Course topics will include:

What is a digital photography file?
Shooting on auto mode (Point and Shoot) [can be done with a DSLR or even a smart phone]
White on White / Black on Black / White on Black / Black on White
Components of a good photograph
Rules of composition
The decisive moment
Rules of composition exercise
Conclusions and a quick teaser of shooting in manual mode
For this session, participants can bring any type of digital camera. We will be focusing more on putting the rules of composition in practice, and learning to use lights and shadows in your favor.

In our introductory course, participants learned the basics of what makes a great photograph, and how to set up their shots. Our intermediate course takes things one step further with advanced shooting techniques, a study of more complex lighting issues, and how to successfully produce high-quality, professional photographs.

The skills learned in this course will help participants develop their own unique way of looking at the world through the camera lens. Participants will further develop their own unique personal style and navigate the complexity of planning, shooting, and editing photographs whether they are interested in exploring this as a hobby, or looking to become working photographers.
