Brownsville native, Juan Velez, exhibits his collection of artwork featuring historic buildings.  In honor of Preservation Month, the BHA hopes to inspire and educate visitors of the architectural gems displayed.  All artwork is available for purchase and a portion of the sales benefit the Brownsville Historical Association.

Colobus Monkey Facts!

  1. The name “Colobus” is derived from the Greek word for “mutilated,” because unlike other monkeys, colobus monkeys do not have thumbs.
  2. Colobus monkeys complex stomachs enable them to digest mature or toxic foliage that other monkeys cannot.
  3. Colobus babies are born completely white. They don’t start developing their distinguished black and white coat until several weeks after birth.
  4. When jumping from tree to tree, these monkeys can leap a distance of more than 19-7 feet!
  5. Colobus troops consist of multi-female families that practice allomothering. This means that all females in the troop will take turns caring for the young.

Paramount of Eternity is the title of my upcoming solo exhibition at the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art in Texas. The myth of Sisyphus inspired the title, and that is where I would like to begin. As we know from mythology, Sisyphus was a cruel Greek king whose punishment entailed pushing a gi-ant rock up a steel hill, only to find it rolling back down when he neared to the top.
