The Latino Comics Expo will take place at the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art on February 3rd and 4th. The Latino Comics Expo celebrates the art and traditions of Latino Culture. It will also serve to educate and inspire kids, young adults, and youthful grownups. Fans can meet celebrated artists, writers, filmmakers and scholars as well as attend workshops, panels, watch films, shop and explore art at the Museum of Fine Art.

The 1st-ever Latino Comics Expo was held May 7 & 8, 2011 at the world-famous Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco, CA. It was a historic gathering for Latino comics and art. Since 2011, attendance at the Expo has grown enormously and many more artists, panels, and workshops are now presented.

The Brownsville event will be the most ambitious Latino Comics Expo ever presented. Highlights of the Brownsville Latino Comics Expo include:

Gilbert Hernandez cartoonist and writer – recipient of PEN Center USA’s Graphic Literature Award for Outstanding Body of Work.  He is the co-author of Love and Rockets.

Hector Cantu cartoonist, writer, and editor – the co-creator of the comic strip “Baldo”

The Brownsville Latino Comics Expo is a collaboration between Brownsville Museum of Fine Art and the Latino Comics Expo. In addition to celebrating Latino art, culture, and comics, education is an important element of the convention. Comics can benefit academic achievement by motivating to develop skills in creative writing, self- expression and by using comics as a medium to explore social justice, history, science and other topics. The Expo is teaming up with other Brownsville institutions to present the best Comics Expo ever.
