Are you ready to have fun at the Zoo? Join us on Sunday, August 2nd from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to celebrate the 12th Annual Kids Appreciation Day presented by H-E-B and News Center 23. This day coincides with the 21st Annual National Kids Day, a holiday that encourages parents to spend quality time with their children.
This year, we will focus on endangered great apes, which include, gorilla, chimpanzee, orangutan and bonobo. Children will receive a passport that will take them on a scavenger hunt throughout the Zoo, where they will visit themed activity stations such as ape mask-making, fishing for termites in a kid-size termite mound and putting together your own delicious snack, inspired by items used in a gorilla’s diet. All activities are focused on health and wellness, safety, animal conservation and enrichment.
In honor of Kids Appreciation Day, the Zoo will also giveaway goodie bags for the first 1,000 children that complete their passports. The goodie bags will be stuffed with a H-E-B Buddy school supplies like crayons, safety scissors, glue stick , pencil and sharpener. Fully stamped passports will also be entered into a drawing for prizes such as bicycles and helmets, courtesy of Luke Fruia Motors and Jason’s Deli, backpacks filled with school supplies, tickets to Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark, sports physicals, courtesy of Valley Day & Night Clinic and gift cards for Rudy’s Bar-B-Q as well as Academy Sports + Outdoors.
Also, don’t miss out on your opportunity to win a one year family membership to the Zoo. All you have to do is take a selfie with H-E-B Buddy, and share it on Instagram using #KidsAppreciationDay2015. Winners will be contacted on Monday, August 3rd and will be able to pick up their membership certificate at the Zoo’s main office.
