You are cordially invited to the Brownsville Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom event on Saturday, June 18th.
We are inviting RGV residents and organizations to come celebrate and share information with the community. We will help each other out by learning history from different perspectives and by sharing information about our different causes.
Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of slaves in the state of Texas and throughout the Confederate South on June 19, 1865 – more than 2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
This celebration is not sponsored by any corporations. We are residents gathering together to celebrate freedom. History of Juneteenth: http://www.juneteenth.com/history.htm
If your organization would like to set up a table, please contact us and we’ll add you to the list.
We highly encourage you to also bring food to share (potluck). If you are musically inclined or belong to a dance group, feel free to treat us with your music or dance skills. If enough performers promise to show up, we can set up specific times for their performances.
