Faculty percussionist Joe W. Moore III presents a recital including “Heavy Circles” by Joseph Harchanko, inspired by Kandinsky’s painting of the same name. An active composer, Moore will perform original works including “Halley’s Comet” (written for a Brazilian Marimba Competition) and the world premiere of “Kindled Fire” for multi-percussion. The program will also include “Nagoya Marimbas” by Steve Reich, “Why not patterns” (snare drum) by Brett Dietz, and a second world premiere of a commissioned vibraphone solo by composer Elliot Cole. Dr. Moore’s sponsors include REMO Drumheads, SABIAN Cymbals, Black Swamp Percussion, and Vic Firth sticks and mallets.
