Saturday, June 11, 2016 the Gladys Porter Zoo is proud to present the 6th annual YappoPalooza Sea Turtle Festival in beautiful Brownsville, Texas. The day long festival kicks off with the Ridley Rush 1 Mile Walk/Run. After the walk/run, families can enjoy children’s activities, exhibits and demonstrations, arts and crafts vendors, shrimp plates, silent auction and more. On Saturday night, for the adults, we will feature craft beer sampling, Texas Gulf shrimp, silent auction and live music. The family-oriented festival raises awareness of sea turtle conservation efforts, encourages conservation volunteerism and raises critically needed funds for proven recovery projects. The goal is to raise unrestricted funds for the Bi-national Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtle Project administered by the Gladys Porter Zoo and other endangered sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico.
- Ridley Rush 1 Mile Walk/Run: 8:45 a.m.
- Family-Oriented Event: 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- Adult Event: 7:00 p.m. – Midnight
Come kick-off the summer and help us honor the memory of Jeffery “Yappo” Boruff, one of the dedicated volunteers that made a real difference working side-by-side with the professionals at the epicenter of the Bi-national Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtle Project in Rancho Nuevo, Mexico.
The bi-national project represents one of the most successful endangered species recovery efforts ever undertaken. This extraordinary four-decade effort has brought Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles back from the brink of extinction. Funding for sea turtle conservation is more limited than ever, all revenues derived from the festival will be used to fund the bi-national project. You can be part of the recovery team and help save Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles by supporting the 6th Annual YappoPalooza Sea Turtle Festival.
