The Brownsville/South Padre Island International Airport has been around for over 85 years. Our airport opened on March 9, 1929 when Charles Lindbergh landed in Brownsville after a historic five-hour flight from Mexico City establishing the first International Airmail service. Lindbergh was welcomed to a crowd of 20,000 people, which included Amelia Earhart.
