Airport Information

In March of 1929 Charles Linbergh landed in Brownsville from Mexico. This marked the opening of the Brownsville Municipal Airport; an event also attended by Amelia Earhart.

The Name was changed to the Brownsville-Pan American Municipal Airport after Pan American Airlines began service here.

In the 1930′s commercial airline service was enhanced with the addition of Braniff Airways and Eastern Airlines. Captain Eddie Rickenbacker attended the opening ceremonies. In the 1960;s the airport evolved into a major industrial area and a new weather radar system was installed.

The 1990′s brought us Droppler weather radar, the establishment of the Rio Grande Valley Wing of the Commemorative Air Force and a new air carries service to Houston and the world.

Today the airport offers connections to more than 280 cities worldwide and is the closest most convenient airport to South Padre Island and Matamoros, Mexico.
