Exhibit in Commemoration of Texas History Month Brownsville,Texas- March 2010-The Brownsville Historical Association invites the community to celebrate Texas History Month and the 174th anniversary of the Texas Revolution with The Flags of Texas, a painting exhibit by Don Breeden on display at the Brownsville Heritage Museum. The exhibit will run from March 6, 2010 to April 3, 2010. The exhibit will open with a presentation by Don Breeden on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 2:00 pm. The event is free to the public. There will be a reception after the presentation. Texans hold a strong interest in flags, especially our own Lone Star Flag. Throughout our unique history of heroic leaders, epic stories, and legendary battles, our flags have flown high and proud as a testament to our struggle for independence.
From the battle flags of the many volunteers who came to the aid of the "Texians" in their conflicts with Mexico, to the many independent groups who fought to establish Texas as a Republic, these banners have come to represent the history of this great state. The Flags of Texas is a tribute to these many flags that have come to help define Texas history. It is an amalgamation of several series of historically-inspired flag paintings by Don Breeden, such as "The Flags of Goliad," "The Flags of the Alamo," "The Six Flags Over Texas," and "The Flags of the Republic of Texas." The exhibit is included with BHA general admission to the Brownsville Heritage Complex, which includes admission to the Stillman House Museum and to the Brownsville Heritage Museum. Admission is free for members of the Brownsville Historical Association. Don Breeden is a locally-renowned artist with a vast portfolio of artwork that ranges from South Texas wildlife to historic military battles. He is most notably known for his artwork of historically significant Brownsville homes and buildings and for his series of paintings for the official Charro Days Posters, most recently the official poster for Charro Days 2010. Much of his artwork is on display at the Breeden Art Gallery, located on Boca Chica Boulevard in Brownsville. Along with the exhibition, the BHA carries a large variety of postcard packages and prints that feature artwork by Don Breeden in the La Tienda Heritage Museum Gift Shop. BHA members receive a discount on the purchase of these items. Additionally, La Tienda also carries books on the subject of the Flags of Texas.
