Winter Programs at Resaca de la Palma State Park and World Birding Center: Guided Walks, Camping Events, and More!
Tucked in the northwest corner of Brownsville’s city limits is Resaca de la Palma State Park and World Birding Center, a new park opened in December 2008. A satellite site for the World Birding Center, Resaca de la Palma State Park offers opportunities for birding, butterfly-watching, nature photography, hiking, biking, and much more!

Welcome to the amazing world of men’s professional tennis. The City of Brownsville and The Brownsville Tennis Association will be hosting the ninth Annual United States Tennis Association Pro-Circuit men’s professional tennis tournament February 13, 2010 through the finals on February 21, 2010. Top players come here from all over the world to compete in this 15k prize money tournament. Generally, 35 to 40 Countries are represented, and for course many US players. Many of these dedicated players go on to compete in many of the world’s renowned tournaments such as The Australian Open, The French Open, Wimbledon and The United States Open. In the 2009 Wimbledon tournament, 15 of these competitors had played in Brownsville.

Have you ever gone hiking on a glacier? Brr! Texas Parks and Wildlife volunteer Ken Smith will be talking about glaciers and the way these slow-moving ice blocks form the land over many years. After the talk, join us for a tram tour and a brief discussion of the geology of South Texas Join us on Tuesday, Febrauary 9, 2010 at 11:00am.

Brownsville Farmers' Market will open for its second season starting this Saturday, October 3,2009 and will run until March 27, 2010. The Market is located in Linear Park (6th Street and Harrison) and operates from 8:00 am to 12 noon every Saturday. There will be a variety of produce sold all of which is grown by local farmers. Come experience the life of a soldier in 1846! February 6, 2010 at 10:00am - 1:00pm
Our monthly living history program provides a glimpse of the two armies during the U.S.-Mexican War. Interpreters, in period uniforms, present military tactics and camp life. They also demonstrate the use of 19th century weaponry, including muskets and cannon. Visitors are encouraged to interact with "real" soldiers of the era and participate in a variety of hands-on activities. All programs are provided free of charge and everyone is invited to attend.

Following the popular response of our Summer Art Camp, the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art will now be offering art instruction year-round to kids ages 5 to 12. They'll learn the fundamentals of drawing, painting, sculpture and more. Courses are offered in four Saturday sessions, 9:30 a.m. till noon, and are taught by TEA Certified Instructors.
