#BrownsvilleHotspots: BCVB Launches Social Media Campaign With Instagram
BROWNSVILLE, TX – The Brownsville Conventions & Visitors Bureau (BCVB) is using the power of social media, smart phones and Instagram, the popular iPhone and Android photo sharing app, to launch a new campaign that gives potential visitors a visual user-generated guide of the attractions and popular places to visit in Brownsville.
The campaign allows users to share photos of their favorite hot-spots using the hash tag #BrownsvilleHotspots. The photos will be available for the world to see on Facebook, Twitter, and www.brownsville.org. Contest will be held on a Monthly basis and winners will receive prizes ranging from signed 75th Anniversary Charro Days posters from renowned artist Don Breeden, “Brownsville, Always a Fiesta” hats and t-shirts, gift bags, or gift certificates. In order for the photo to be eligible the user must use the hash tag #BrownsvilleHotsposts and geotag the photo to a popular Brownsville point of interest, which can range from popular attractions around the city such museums, historical sites, popular restaurants, nightlife hot-spots, or nature attractions.
“The more people we get involved to help showcase the city the better,” said Brownsville City Commissioner, John Villarreal. “Using the power of social media is the best form of free advertisement, and this campaign compliments the BCVB’s efforts of turning the residents and visitors of Brownsville into ambassadors for the city.”
Instagram has managed to stay around and pass the test of not just being a fad, but it is a new medium that allows people to share real-world experiences in creative ways. The service also retains an active user base with over 10 million users world-wide, which is why it’s a great tool for destination marketing.
The #BrownsvilleHotspots social media campaign is a component of the Brownsville Convention & Visitors Bureau’s “WOW! Brownsville, Always a Fiesta!” campaign which launched earlier this year.
“With the “WOW!” campaign we wanted people to take ownership of promoting Brownsville as a positive and festive city along with its many attractions and places to visit,” Said Mariano “Bean” Ayala, President/CEO of the BCVB. “The #BrownsvilleHotspots campaign is just another way for Brownsville’s beauty to be shared with the world and further enhance the message the “WOW! Always A Fiesta!” campaign is trying to convey.”
The monthly contests will start October 1st, 2012 through September 30th, 2013. For more information read the contest rules at http://brownsville.org/hotspotsmap/content-rules
